Born in Pennsylvania in 1987. Lives in New York City.
Joey George first arrived to New York City in 2005 to pursue a career as a performance artist. Joey’s studies have morphed his multi-talents of technical hair skills, painting, sculpture, performance, and art history to become known as one of the most innovative hair artists today. His personal work (Joeys Journal, followed by a number) has been an ongoing practice since 2012. Joey George has been credited internationally across some of the world’s preeminent publications and major contemporary events. Joey’s hair work highlights the tensions between constraint and freedom, surrealism and the ordinary, the collective and the individual. He uses multiple platforms to direct and express his creative visions, which keeps him in demand with top designers, celebrities, photographers and directors worldwide.
Joey's work is credited regularly with contemporary performance artist Vanessa Beecroft and conceptual performance artist Marina Abramovic.
